Van Dyk Duven Funeral Home in Pella, Iowa

Wilson and Roger Duven founded the vandyk duven funeral home in 1963. Now owned and operated by Roger and Glenda Steenhoek, the funeral home has been serving the bereaved for over 50 years. Wilson was a funeral director, and Roger became the president of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association in 1982. Wilson passed away in January 1994, and Roger continues to serve the community in many capacities.

In Pella, Iowa, the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home has been the premier choice for services. Established by John M. Van Dyk in 1941, this funeral home has become the preferred choice for families. Both father and son were committed to serving the bereaved community, and Wilson and Roger Duven were devoted to this mission. Roger Duven was elected as the President of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association in 1982. The Van Dyk family continues to serve the community and those in need.

In 1998, Leah Duven joined the Van Dyk -Duven Funeral Home family. Justin earned his degrees at Iowa State University and from the University of Minnesota. He is married to Leah and has three sons. He is active in the community, serving as the District 6 Governor of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association and chairing the Legislative Committee. Hillman is active in the community, supporting Aim for a Cure Foundation and is an avid hunter and conservationist.

Van Dyk – Duven Funeral Home has been serving the community since 1941. It was established by John M. Van Dyk, a native of Pella. He purchased Wormhoudt & Plette in 1941. They built their business on a reputation of service, reputation, and facilities. In 1980, John contacted Wilson H. Duven, who was then operating a funeral/furniture store in Ashton, Iowa.

Roger and Glenda (Steenhoek) Duven are the current owners

Wilson Duven, a native of Pella, first purchased Van Dyk -Duven Funeral Home in 1954. He later joined his father in the business and they served families in the Pella area for nearly thirty years. Both Wilson and Roger Duven were compassionate and dedicated to serving families. Roger became President of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association in 1982. He is active in many organizations including the Pheasants Forever Foundation and the Iowa Safari Club International.

Lyle Borg graduated from Iowa State University and then worked as a broadcaster for WMT. He also taught Family and Consumer Science at College Community Junior High. In addition, he served in the Army during the Vietnam War, serving at Fort Campbell, Ky., and West Point, N.Y. He and his wife, Carolyn, later bought a Century Farm near their home in Plain View. They supported their three boys’ activities and became members of the Iowa Horsemen’s Hall of Fame.

Justin Van Dyk – Duven is the Family Services Director

The funeral home’s Family Services Director, Justin Hillman, has been in the business since 1997. He holds degrees from the University of Minnesota and Iowa State University. He is married to Leah and has three sons. Justin is the District 6 Governor of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association and also serves as the Chairman of the Legislative Committee. In his free time, he is active in his community, serves on the Board of the Aim for a Cure Foundation, and is an avid hunter and conservationist.
